Sel’s journey as a mother to Darius, a 21-year-old with
autism, began in a place of deep isolation. When
Darius was first diagnosed, resources were scarce, and
the answers she sought seemed impossible to find.
Every day, she faced uncertainty, watching her son
struggle with limited support. Her heart ached, but she
refused to give up.
Determined to help Darius thrive, she immersed herself
in research, discovering the power of bio-individualized
nutrition. As she saw small improvements in her son’s
health, Selamawit knew she was onto something
bigger. She developed recipes, authored Food Matters:
Unlocking the Autism Plate, and created teaching
materials and a children’s reading book to support
other families. Her journey transformed into a mission
—not just for Darius but for parents everywhere.

What sets Sel apart is her vision of empowerment. Through her nonprofit,
Championing Autism, she teaches families not only how to support their
children’s health but also how to help them realize their potential to contribute to
society. She believes that every child deserves the chance to thrive, and her
work shows that with the right support, they can go on to make a living, just like
anyone else.
Selamawit doesn’t stop there. Every Saturday on TikTok, she raises awareness
and empowers moms and parents, sharing strategies that have worked for her
and inspiring them to believe in their children’s futures. She shows them that
autism doesn’t have to be a barrier to independence or success.
Your donation will help expand these life-changing programs, providing families
with the resources and opportunities to help their children not just survive but
make a living and contribute meaningfully to society. With your support, we can
create a world where every individual, regardless of their challenges, has the
chance to thrive.
