When Edna was younger, she had the freedom to join sports teams and explore hobbies without a second thought—opportunities she often took for granted. Tennis quickly became her passion, and she thrived at Harvard-Westlake, one of the nation’s top schools, surrounded by endless possibilities.
But as she watched her cousin Darius, who has autism, she saw a stark contrast. While she was free to dive into her interests, Darius was often left out, excluded from the activities she enjoyed so easily. The more Edna saw Darius miss out on the simple joys she experienced, the more it weighed on her. She couldn’t understand why someone as talented and curious as Darius didn’t have the same opportunities.
Over time, she realized it wasn’t just about having access to sports or hobbies—it was about creating a space where every child could feel included and valued.
And so, Championing Autism was born. Edna wanted to ensure that kids like Darius could share in the experiences she had once taken for granted. For her, this initiative is more than a commitment to inclusion; it’s a tribute to Darius and all children who deserve the chance to pursue their passions and be celebrated for who they are.
Through Championing Autism, Edna is breaking down barriers and opening doors, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to thrive.
